Insulation Contractors in Leawood, KS
Larger houses have more envelope to lose heat through, more complicated roof lines, and more often than not an attic that is partly finished or full of equipment.
Bigger Houses, More Complicated Envelopes
A large home rarely has one simple attic. It has several, at different levels, separated by kneewalls, dormers and bonus rooms over garages, with the conditioned space pushing up into the roof structure in places. Insulation on a floor does very little in that geometry, because the boundary between inside and outside is not where a floor fill assumes it is.
Bonus Rooms and Rooms Over Garages
The room above the garage is the single most common comfort complaint in houses of this type. It is surrounded by unconditioned space on more sides than any other room, often with an uninsulated floor over a cold garage and kneewalls backing onto open attic. Treating it properly means addressing all of those surfaces, not just the ceiling above it.
Where the Roof Line Is the Right Boundary
Where an attic is finished, floored for storage or holds mechanical equipment, insulating at the roof deck brings the whole volume inside the building envelope. That is more material than a floor fill and it costs more, and on these houses it is frequently the only approach that actually resolves the complaint.
Questions
Common questions
Why is the room over our garage always uncomfortable?
Because it is exposed to unconditioned space on more sides than any other room. Fixing it means treating the floor, the kneewalls and the ceiling, not just one of them.
Do you cover Leawood?
Yes, Leawood and the surrounding Johnson County communities are inside the regular service area.
Our attic is partly finished. What are the options?
Usually foam at the roof line rather than material on the floor, because the conditioned space already extends into the roof structure.
